From Day One

GetThru's roots are in progressive politics, and we only work with clients who share our values.

Our Story

GetThru was created by veterans of Bernie 2016, where we helped build the campaign’s historic voter contact operation. In the process, we saw the need for better technology for reaching people where they are—on their cell phones. After leaving the campaign we created ThruText, our P2P texting platform, which launched in September 2016. Two years later we released ThruTalk, our phone calling solution.

Our first clients were political campaigns and advocacy organizations. Today, with over 2,000 clients and counting, that remains the heart of our business. In 2017, we also began working with colleges and universities, and now over 400 educational institutions use our tools for admissions, recruitment, fundraising, and alumni relations. We have also expanded to work with nonprofits, pollsters, researchers, government agencies, and select mission-aligned for-profit companies. Together our clients have sent more than 1 billion text messages and made more than 750 million calls for event recruitment, voter and volunteer engagement, fundraising, polling, and more.

But, we weren’t always GetThru! We were known as Relay until March 2019, when we rebranded as GetThru. We love that our new name speaks directly to what we do — helping clients reach their audiences via real human-to-human connection.

August 2016

GetThru is born
Back then our company name was Relay, and we started out with just our texting product under the same name.

September 2016

We sent our first text
The client was Anil Kumar, candidate for Michigan House of Representatives

August 2017

We grew our team and markets
We hired our first full-time employees and signed our first education client (shout out to UC Merced!)

October 2017

We sponsored our first conference
Who knew it took so much stuff to fill a single booth?

April 2018

We met IRL
Our small but might team gathered for the first in person team retreat in New Orleans, LA

November 2018

We made it through our first midterms
After 150M texts and 42M calls, our tools proved they could withstand record midterm election traffic

April 2019

We changed our name
We relayed that we were no longer Relay, now rebranded as GetThru

May 2019

We formed the Charitable Giving Committee
The committee is made up of employees who direct our donations from the GetThru Charitable Fund

June 2020

We formed the ERCC
The Equity, Representation, & Culture Committee (ERCC) came together in the wake of the George Floyd Uprising and works across issues related to equity, representation & culture at GetThru

November 2020

We made it through a presidential election
In our first full presidential election, we sent over 850 million texts and made 700 dials, empowering our clients through a pandemic and helping to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris!

January 2021

We decided to rebuild ThruTalk
We began planning and implementing a complete ThruTalk rebuild and we can’t wait to share it with you in 2022!
